Fusion
The San Francisco Fusion (2003 – 2007) started out as a San Francisco Eagles team that brought together players, known and unknown, from around the country to participate in the 2002 Gay Games in Sydney.
With San Francisco’s Jim Oakley and Mark Prunty, along with Sacramento’s Mark Satre, center Rob Smitherman from Virginia, two guards from Michigan; Myan Nolan and Stuart Leung, the core of the San Francisco Fusion was born.
“We have people from Virginia, Detroit, all over,” said Ellison Pork, another player from that 2002 team. “We never played together before, but we have a good chance of doing something special. We’d never met each other, but we’re like a family.” Though it was a team of players that had never played together before, the pre-Fusion team competed in the A division and was able to secure fifth place in the 2002 games.
In 2004, Peter Myers from San Francisco would join San Francisco Fusion during the tournament held in Long Beach. 2005 would bring in former-Rockdog shooter Jeff Edmonds and a then-unknown 6-9 center from Nebraska, Windell Austin.
