++ *1* SPOT REMAINS for CBL27 ++

We have *ONE* spot remaining for the upcoming fall season of the Castro League. If you haven’t registered, please register. (We always have a waiting list, and we always have to use it)

This year, the Castro League will feature our largest group ever with 10 teams and 80 players in two divisions with full stats, awards, as well as continuing our focus on maintaining league integrity and off-court social activities.

++ No Open Gym this Sunday ++

Due of Labor Day, we won’t hold our normal Open Gym this Sunday – we’ll reopen next Sunday. If you’re a new player looking to play/practice/meetup before then, some of the league players will be at the Castro gym tomorrow (Saturday) from around noon to 3pm. Feel free to join.

Registration Open: Castro Basketball League (Fall 2011)

The SFGBA is pleased to announce that registration for the 2011 fall season of the Castro Basketball League (CBL) is open!

The season opener is tentatively set to Wednesday, September 7th, 2011 – game times will be at 7pm and 8pm.

As with the past several seasons, there will be two divisions: A division (competitive) and B Level (recreational). We’re aiming for the B division to play their games on Wednesdays while the A division on Thursdays.

We’re also looking for captains and help with the league logisitics, stat taking, and sponsorships- let us know if you’re interested! Please feel free to send us an email at info @ sfgba dut com.

No lockout here. The SFGBA uses it’s extremely limited resources to crush all unions before they start.

Mark your calendars. The SFGBA wants to send out a note and give you a heads up that the Castro Basketball League (CBL) is planning to launch our 27th season in September. The exact dates of the league are still TBD, but rest assured, the board is pinning down dates and doing work. If all goes to plan, registration will begin next week!

Just a reminder that there is NO OPEN GYM FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS (June 26 and July 3, 2011) in honor of Gay Pride and Independence Day. Hope the Sunbays have great weather in store for you to tan yourself.

Gaymen, Rambros are League Champions of CBL26

Rambros capture ‘B’ Title over Fighting Unicorns 30-20 in defensive struggle: The Rambros won an ugly game in which the Unicorns scored a season low 20 points. It wasn’t a beautiful game for the ‘Bros either, they scored just 30 points, their second lowest total of the season. The Rambros took advantage of the a Christophe-less Unicorn team. In a game without much offense, Mark Martin discovered his shot, hitting better than 50% for the first time this season, leading the ‘Bros with 18 points. The Unicorns were led by Nick Daniels’ 13 points and 9 rebounds.

Gaymen win championship of CBL A Division

Gaymen win nine “straight” gaymes for “A” championship 44-38: The Gaymen were the class of the “A” league. After losing their first game to the Gentlemen’s Club, they reeled off 8 consecutive wins to meet the Gentlemen in the finals. The Gentlemen were looking to bookend the season with wins over the Gaymen but came up short, losing another well-played match between the two teams. League MVP Laz led the Gays with 21 points. Tim Schaetzler had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Gentlemen.

Congratulations goes out to the Rambros and Gaymen for winning the league championships in their respective divisions!

We also wanted to send out a quick reminder to stop by this weekend for Jock Sunday at the Lookout starting at 3:30pm. Help support the league by stopping by and hang out with fellow players after another Castro League season. The event is will go until ~7pm. There will also be open gym!
