SFGBA Code of Conduct

SFGBA’s mission is to provide a safe, inclusive, and fun environment for LGBTQ+ basketball players and our allies. While competition is an important part of basketball, SFGBA’s first priority is the safety and wellbeing of our players and community. Violence, intimidation, slurs, aggressive arguing and other unsportsmanlike conduct is strictly prohibited and has no place in our league. This Code of Conduct must be agreed to during league registration. It reads:

I have read this Code of Conduct and hereby agree to adhere to it. Violations may result in the forfeiture of my registration fee and my removal from the remainder of the current league's season, potential suspension and/or banishment from playing in future seasons, at the discretion of SFGBA leaders, based on the severity of the situation.

  • I accept responsibility for my behavior on the court. I understand that what I do and say affects my teammates, SFGBA, and the community.

  • I will not engage in unsportsmanlike conduct with any player, official or attendee participating in the SFGBA league, or at any venue where games are played. Such conduct may include, but is not limited to, the following:

    • Verbal or physical harassment or belittling of players, officials or attendees

    • Threats or intentional physical violence toward players, officials or attendees before, during, or after a game

    • Discriminatory slurs against players, officials or attendees

    • Unwanted sexual advances or assaults against players, officials or attendees

    • Aggressive arguing with players, officials or attendees

    • Intentional and malicious misgendering of players, officials or attendees

  • I understand that receiving two (2) technical fouls during a game will result in my immediate ejection from the game, and that receiving repeated technical fouls during a season may result in my suspension from the rest of the season.

  • I understand that any such incidents where I am ejected from a game will be reviewed by SFGBA leaders to determine if any further disciplinary action is warranted.

  • I understand that SFGBA players come in all shapes, sizes, gender expressions and identities, and certain gender-specific language (“bro”, “man”, “girl”, etc.) may not be welcomed when addressing some players. I will be mindful of this at the games and will respectfully address any concerns raised by players or SFGBA leaders and cease to use such terms when concerns are raised.

  • I am aware that if I am misgendered or gender-specific language is used towards me that is unacceptable, SFGBA leadership will only be able to remedy the concern if it is brought to their attention. I understand that SFGBA leadership is available to hear my concerns and will take prompt action to remedy any issues. Therefore, SFGBA leadership encourages any person with concerns to promptly notify leadership.  SFGBA will address the concern, whether the offender's action was intentional or unintentional. SFGBA's goal is to maintain a safe space for all to enjoy playing basketball.
